the known universe

todays APOD is a stunning video of the known universe created by the american museum of natural history.

the video flows from the surface of the earth out to our cosmic horizon, which is the farthest part of the universe that is available for us to view.

That was really awe inspiring!

A few questions:

Do you know why the part of the universe we've mapped is shaped like an "X"?

Is there a website that contains a lot of those "space animations"? In the past you've posted animations of galaxies forming and colliding. I'll watch those and meditate upon them, and I find them really powerful and moving. I'd love to see more!

That was gorgeous. Seriously moving. I feel like I know my celestial neighbors a little bit better.
