i'm in the thick of searching for a job. again. as are many highly qualified astronomers.
my current contract ends this year and then i will no longer officially be a super scientist :( not to worry, though, i will keep wearing the cape occasionally ;)
i have other career goals besides the standard academic path towards professorship, but the challenge is to find opportunities to make those goals happen. i'm currently hopeful, and the next couple months will reveal much about my future, so stay tuned.
meanwhile, enjoy this cartoon by grant snider which summarizes it all.

*sigh* Such a thoughtful and evocative strip... good luck on your journeys Pixie..!
Alligator walking never works out, for some reason.
What?!? Can we change the science constitution or something? You should be super-scientist for life! Good luck with whatever you do next, I'm sure it will be amazing.
Good luck with the job hunting, wherever it leads you! :)
I have made the transition from astronomer to A GIS analyst (programming mostly). Two of the most frustrating responses from potetial employers were:
with your qualifications/experience are you going to stay around and not jump at the next astronomy job.
we know you could do the job but we have someone who has done it before.
Good luck. I'll follow with interest
