from the test tube video series comes a very interesting short video about research being conducted on bananas! there's an excess of banana peels available in several african countries that are just going to waste. could these banana peels be used as an efficient energy source when burned?

I have read about similar experiment successfully conducted at factory plant in Maharashtra India. They had excess wild grass that had to cleared periodically at the factory site. The factory engineers came up with same approach used grass thrasher to cut the the grass made cooked the grass in oven to make "coal like" pellets which were then used by workers living in vicinity as fuel to cook. and the data showed the entire experiment produced "coal" at a cheaper cost then buying coal for daily use.
Unfortunately couldn't find link to english transcript of their research paper on internet
On another related note, did you ever catch the news about turning used coffee grounds into biodiesel?

I like how lots of people are reaching similar ideas about alternative fuels...
Just add 2 billion barrels of oil to drive around collecting bananna peels.
Hm. That's interesting. "And then we're gonna..."
I found that fascinating. We eat, and using the waste to such good use would be awesome :o)
